December to January: keep the year in a personal-month worksheet
December and January are an easy place to lose the year in a personal-month calculation. A worksheet labelled only month 1 or month 12 may combine a new month's number with the previous year's personal-year result. This exercise uses a declared calendar-year method and ordinary single-digit reduction throughout. It demonstrates period labelling rather than predicting what either month will bring.

Carry the year alongside every month
Continue with the fictional 14 March input. Under the stated personal-year rule, 2026 produces 9 and 2027 produces 1. For this teaching method, add the calendar month number to that year's personal-year result and reduce. December 2026 is therefore 9 + 12 = 21, then 3. January 2027 is 1 + 1 = 2.
Using the old personal-year value of 9 for January would instead produce 10, then 1. That arithmetic is internally correct for those numbers but the period selection is wrong under the declared convention. The mistake occurs before addition. A clean-looking reduction cannot certify that the correct year was selected.
Label boundaries without manufacturing an event
Write December 2026 and January 2027 in full beside their results. If the convention instead changes personal years on birthdays, explain that interval separately before calculating across it. Do not quietly switch turnover policies because one result seems more attractive. A method note should allow another reader to reproduce the same sequence.
Nor does a change from a displayed 3 to 2 imply that an outside event happens at midnight. These are symbolic categories assigned by a chosen numerical method. Appointments, contractual deadlines and actual calendar dates retain their practical meaning regardless of how a reflective worksheet labels a month.
Audit the transition as a small table
A useful private worksheet has columns for calendar year, month, personal-year working, month addition and final reduction. Include the original birth-month and day values once, together with the rule used to obtain each year's result. An exported screenshot should retain enough headings that 2 cannot be mistaken for February or a day-of-month value.
If a January reading was based on the wrong year, issue a brief correction with both workings and the affected period. Avoid rewriting the person's recent experiences to make the mistaken reading appear accurate. The point of an arithmetic check is to identify an input or boundary error honestly. Keep any interpretation tentative and separate from the calculation, with no guarantee about mood, income, relationships or opportunity in either month.
