The High Priestess and the Magician: reflection and visible action

Reflection and action are often described as if one must defeat the other. A more useful question is what information is still needed and what small step can be taken without pretending that uncertainty has disappeared. This original High-Priestess-and-Magician exercise uses the pair as two prompts. It is not a claim that a card reveals hidden facts or grants control over events.

Reserve a space for what is unknown

Use a fictional situation: someone has been invited to help with an exhibition but has not received the schedule. The reflective position asks what remains unclear, what assumptions are being made and which details should be confirmed privately. The answer might include the expected time commitment, access arrangements and who makes final decisions.

Do not turn missing information into evidence of a secret agenda. A delayed reply can have many explanations. The High Priestess prompt in this exercise permits a person to pause and name uncertainty; it does not authorise a reader to announce what another person is concealing or to investigate them without consent.

Choose an action that fits the evidence

The action position asks what the person can do with the resources already available. They could write one concise message requesting the schedule and list their available hours. That step is visible and proportionate. It does not depend on guessing the organiser's motives or committing to work that has not been described.

Set a review point: if no schedule arrives by the agreed date, decide whether to decline or request an extension. A practical boundary can coexist with curiosity. Avoid framing action as proof of confidence or hesitation as a character flaw. The right pace depends on the actual circumstances, not on the dramatic appearance of a card.

Keep intuition separate from confirmation

A feeling that the exhibition will be enjoyable can be noted as a personal response. A confirmed schedule is a different kind of information. Write them in separate fields so that later developments do not blur what was known at the time. Historical Tarot symbolism may enrich the discussion, but it cannot verify an unanswered logistical question.

After the review point, record whether the requested information arrived and whether the chosen action helped. If the outcome differs from the initial impression, keep that difference visible. This exercise is successful when it helps someone tolerate uncertainty while taking a sensible step. It is not a test of whether they were intuitive enough, nor a reason to promise that clear intentions alone will cause another person or organisation to respond.
